A Bit of Our History.
Concept of Shark Tooth®
The concept of Shark Tooth® Surf Company was born in 1993 out of the love of spending time with friends surfing in Virginia Beach, VA. It all began with two years of pencil sketches of clothing and surf board designs.
Thinking of other possible brand names for sportswear, we decided on “Fooie”. Weird name, and we only made a few designs, but that’s about as far as it went.
Well, becoming an adult requires a lot of work, so we took just a little bit of time to build careers in technology and raise families. Plus, this gave technology time to catch up to what we needed to grow the business we wanted.
It Begins... Really!
At this point we figured we’re not getting any younger, and technology has been given long enough to catch up, so we may as well get things started. And just like that, Phooey Brands, LLC was born! (see what we did with the name there?)
Why build one business when you could build many? We launched Phooey Brands with the expectation that over time it would build and grow multiple businesses under it. Since we still had those old, dusty sketches for Shark Tooth®, we also launched Shark Tooth® Surf Company as the first business.
After working on Shark Tooth® for a few years we decided we were getting pretty good with digital marketing, and we knew of several small businesses that could use our help. What better time to start a new business? So, SpinnerMedia was born. This may have sounded like a random decision, but it was actually already planned for quite a while. We bought the spinnermedia.com domain before we even started Phooey Brands.
SpinnerMedia provides marketing, consulting, and integration services to other businesses with a personal touch.
So, this thing happened. It was called “The Rona” by some, but everyone pretty much quit working and buying products / services in the traditional sense. So, we adapted!
We tried new business models. Some failed, some are still in testing. But, we did apply the things we learned to what we do for our clients.
In 2022 we came up with a new and simple service provided by SpinnerMedia. We were seeing a couple of common issues for our clients.
- Clients had a hard time getting customers to leave reviews because they didn’t remember the link or the customer would forget.
- Clients were spending a lot of money on business cards which often end up in the trash.
We provided a service to offer digital cards to easily share this information with customers. Learn more below.
We’re working on some pretty cool ideas for the future, but we’re not ready to reveal them yet. So, what’s next? Who knows… we’re making this shit up as we go, aren’t we?
